There are so many ways to wear a cropped sweater jacket that it might just become your favorite layer this spring. This style is made from heavy-weight knit so it has the stretch of a cardigan but the structure of a jacket. Here are some options, and how to style your cropped sweater jacket.

Cropped Sweater Jacket Options
I bought the J.Crew’s Emilie Lady Sweater Jacket in black and navy stripe. They’re classic jewel neck jackets with small patch pockets and gold buttons.
Since I’m just under 5’4″ this style hits just below my natural waist, but if you have a longer torso, it should be waist-length or cropped on you. If you want something a little shorter, try the Lady Jacket With Contrast Trim. It is 1″ shorter and has a curved hem. It also has a beautiful texture to it.
J.Crew Factory also has some more affordable lady jackets like this navy and white striped one and this pretty lavender one.
Shopping at Nordstrom? This Sandro Knit Jacket is elevated and polished.
If you’re looking for a bright color, Boden’s Knitted Jacket comes in a bright and beautiful yellow.
Cropped Sweater Jacket + Fitted T-Shirt + Jeans
A cropped sweater jacket can elevate your basic jeans and t-shirt outfit. I wear my Emilie Lady Jacket with a fitted t-shirt and clean mid-rise or high-rise jeans for a clean, classic look. You could certainly wear it with low-rise jeans and a cropped top if you want to show off your abs!
For a dressy option, opt for pants and loafers. Flowy wide-leg pants, tailored straight pants, and ponte knit kick-flares would all work with this style of jacket.
Sweater Jacket + Fitted Dress
Try a sweater jacket over your favorite tailored dress for brunch, lunch, or a work event. I’m wearing an A-line dress that I bought from Ann Taylor last year.
This navy a-line dress is similar and currently available.
A sheath (fitted dress) would also look chic with your sweater jacket. You can wear this outfit with ballerina flats, block heels, kitten heels, or high heels.
Sweater Jacket + Pencil Skirt
This cropped sweater jacket style is reminiscent of Coco Chanel’s tweed lady jackets which she styled with knee-length pencil skirts and two-tone shoes. Since both pencil skirts and two-tone flats are trending, you’ll find plenty of options to style with your jacket.
This knee-length one is made from a luxurious Italian wool fabric (dry clean only).
If you need one that’s machine washable, take a look at this one from Ann Taylor.
You can also try a mini or midi length. Find a skirt that flatters your body type.
What Not To Wear With Your Cropped Sweater Jacket
I would avoid button-front dresses with any sweater jacket that already has prominent buttons (like the gold ones on mine).
I tried mine with a tiered maxi skirt but didn’t love the way it looked.
I have seen these jackets worn over longer button-down shirts, but I think that’s a tricky style that not everyone can pull off.
Drop me a comment below and tell me how you would style your cropped sweater jacket. Would you opt for a classic look with a fitted skirt, dress, or pants? Or a casual look with jeans? Or is there another style that you would wear?
