When winter is cold, dark, and gloomy, it’s so easy to be a little lazy about how we look. What are we supposed to wear to stay warm but chic?! Here are 10 winter 2024 fashion trends that will inspire you to get out of those sweatpants and dress for the day.

1. Mob Wife Aesthetic
One of the biggest 2024 winter fashion trends on social media has been the Mob Wife aesthetic. Mob Wife outfits feature fur, black leather and/or animal print clothing, big hair, high heels, red lipstick, gold or diamond jewelry, and oversized sunglasses. Sounds like a bit much? My first thought about this trend was: “Eww, it’s tasteless”.
But after digging a little deeper, I started thinking of it as inspiration to be bold, creative, and have more fun with fashion. If “mob wife” doesn’t resonate with you, think 80s Glam instead. Start using your leopard print handbag, put on your red lipstick, and wear your statement jewelry.
Looking for something new? Here are some mob-wife-inspired pieces that I would buy this winter:
Fur-Trimmed Coat – this one is more Classy Chic than Mob Wife but it does have an extravagant aesthetic.
Red Lipstick – my current red lipstick is this deep Garnet Matte crayon that fits into my smallest handbags. (If you have warm undertones you’ll want the Currant Matte). I’ve become a fan of Ilia makeup so I’d like to try their Tango red lipstick.
The Mob Wife’s favorite print is a bold animal print. I prefer to wear them in small doses like these leopard print boots with kitten heels or my leopard print clutch.
If these elements don’t work for your everyday lifestyle, add them to your date night especially your Valentine’s Day looks.
2. Preppy And Corporate Style
If mob wife isn’t your style, don’t worry. Clean, preppy looks and office-wear styles are winter fashion trends in 2024. Keep wearing those polo t-shirts and sweaters, tailored pants, blazers, white button-downs, and dress shoes.
I wear this Perfect Shirt with tailored pants and pointed-toe boots for professional events.
For a more casual event, I have this Cashmere Sweater Polo.
Want that preppy look with the comfort of athleisure? Try this Essential Long Sleeve Polo. I have it in navy and am seriously considering a second color.
3. Romantic Style
Romantic styles a.k.a. feminine style/Girlcore/ Cottagecore/Balletcore is still trending in 2024. This style is easy to pull off in the spring and summer, but how do we incorporate it into our winter wardrobes?
Try a Floral Appliqué Sweater or this Pointelle Ruffle Cardigan Sweater.
Instead of jeans and pants, wear your skirts with tights this winter (and early spring). Tights are trending right now, especially with micro skirts, short shorts, or no pants (yes, it’s a thing, and even my husband has read about it in this WSJ article). I prefer to wear mine with my midi skirts.
I’ve been wearing Sheertex tights lately. They’re a Canadian B-Corp (eco-friendly company) that makes rip-resistant tights so that you can keep your nylons out of the landfill. I have a few pairs and so far they’ve lasted.
4. Coats With Shape
For a few years, we saw a lot of oversized, shapeless coats and jackets. If you’re buying a new coat this year, try one that is belted or nipped in at the waist.
Even puffer jackets can have curves! I just bought this puffer jacket. The cut, the paneling at the sides, and the quilting pattern make it more curve-hugging than most puffers. (It’s also currently on sale.)
For dressy occasions, one of my favorite coat styles is the New Lady Day Coat by J.Crew. I have it in two colors (size up, it runs small) and wear it in the fall, winter, and spring. (Also currently on sale.)
Maxi coats or longline coats are also trending but so far I’m seeing them in designer labels or fast fashion. I’ll look out for affordable but quality versions.
5. Statement Belts
Belts, of course, never go out of style but lately, I’ve been seeing more emphasis on belts.
Wide belts can elevate a basic dress or skirt. You can even try it over a blazer.
Embellished Belts like this one with gold grommets can update your tailored pants or jeans outfit.
Low-slung belts like chain belts are also trending into spring.
6. Oversized Handbags
For years, we’ve seen plenty of mini bags, which are cute but not always practical. As fashion often does, we’re swinging in the other direction with oversized bags.
So if you like to carry everything everywhere, here are some options:
This Oversized Shoulder Bag is the epitome of Quiet Luxury (another style trend that is continuing into 2024).
Large tote bags are trending, including both long and wide shapes. Take a look at this simple leather tote or this Classic Easy Tote.
If you’re looking for affordable handbags, try Nordstrom Rack. This zip-top tote/cross-body bag, this large hobo bag, and this large bucket bag are each under $200. All three styles are currently on trend.
7. Peach, Pink, And Lilac
Pantone’s 2024 Color Of The Year is Peach Fuzz, a soft and warm color we haven’t seen in fashion recently.
Cariuma collaborates with Pantone to offer shoes in the color of the year. Choose from their canvas shoes in Peach Fuzz or white leather ones with Peach Fuzz accents. Need running shoes? Hoka’s Kawana shoes come in Peach Parfait.
If you have warm undertones in your skin, the color peach will give you a glow so wear it around your face. Take a look at this Cashmere Sweater in Apricot or this Peach Wool Cardigan.
If you have cool undertones, wear peach away from your face, in accessories, or a print. Or try Millenial Pink or Lilac, the other sweet, romantic colors that will be huge in spring.
8. Silver And Gold
Metallics have been big lately in jewelry, accessories, and clothing (silver pants were huge around the holidays). I’ve read trend reports that say it’s all about silver, and others that say it’s all about gold. I’m going to suggest that you wear what suits you, especially if you are wearing the color near your face. If you have cool undertones, wear silver. If you have warm undertones, wear gold.
How do you wear this trend now that the holidays are over?
Wear a Metallic Sweater or a Glam Tee under your blazer or coat.
How about Silver Sneakers?
Take a look at this silver convertible bag. It comes with a shoulder strap as well as a crossbody strap.
I just bought this leather mini clutch in silver. I love that it is not as formal as a crystal one but can be used for a cocktail or black tie optional event.
This style is sold out in silver but currently available in gold bronze. 9. Chocolate, Oxblood, and Gray
Black will always be a winter neutral but if you’re looking for a change, try chocolate, oxblood (dark burgundy), or gray.
Pair these colors with ivory, pale pink, light gray, or sage.

10. Bows
We’ll see romantic looks throughout 2024 but especially for Valentine’s Day. Bows are trending in both bold and subtle ways. Here are a few ways to try the bow trend:
Hair Accessories like these simple bow ponytail holders or this more dramatic bow barette.
Handbags like this leather top handle handbag or this affordable faux leather one.
Sweaters like this pointelle knit one with bow accents (which you can wear into spring).
Jewelry like this pretty Swarovski crystal pendant or these
Shoes with bow details like these trending ballet flats or these classic UGG® boots.
What I love about this trend is that it is easy, versatile, and possibly already in our closets! Could you add a ribbon to your ponytail holder or tie a skinny scarf into a bow on your handbag?
Which of these 2024 winter fashion trends will you be wearing? Our winter lasts well into April so I know I’ll be wearing almost all of them! Let me know in the comments below your favorite current trends.
