Our house is a renovated farmhouse, so it lends itself to rustic decor. I often find my home decor at craft festivals, garden stores, and independent stores, but I’ve also found several online options. My goal is to give our house a cozy festive feel, especially for the fall and holiday season. Whether you live in a farmhouse or are embracing the cottagecore movement, here are some rustic fall and winter decor ideas for you…
1.Dried Flowers And Branches
I have a tendency to forget our plants and then frantically over-water them so I am very happy in the fall when dried accents are in season! I picked up this arrangement from our local grocery store, but if you’re shopping online, take a look at this Dried Ruby Silk Grass from Bloomist or these these Dried Everlasting Flowers from Target.com.

My pitcher is Mud Pie’s Pour Stoneware Pitcher. You can also use a metal pitcher, milk can, or large mason jar to give your arrangement that country feel.
Hint: Start with brown and white stems. Add orange and yellow accents for Thanksgiving, then switch them for red, and gold if you celebrate Christmas. Take out the red for New Year’s Eve. You can spray some of the branches with gold spray paint, or add this Natural Twig Branch Light for extra sparkle.
If you just don’t have the time to create your own arrangement, take a look at this Cream And Bronze Ecalyptus Dried Bouquet. The neutral colors and simple style make this a beautiful addition to any room.
2.Cozy Blankets, Throws, And Pillows
Chunky Knits
Break out your knitting needles – we’re going to make some chunky knit pillows and throws. Just kidding; I have no knitting talent but I do know where to find some gorgeous knit accents to warm up your home.
This gold Marled Knit Throw from Arhaus is hand sewn and has a beautiful tassel detail.
Target’s Cotton Knit Throw Blanket comes in a variety of colors so you can pick one up for every holiday that you celebrate. 😉
If you live somewhere that’s too warm for throws and blankets, this Harper Knit Pillow will give you all the cozy feelings without the extra heat.
Nothing says rustic fall and winter decor like pumpkins! Have a tiny space that needs warming up? How about these adorable Felted Wool Pumpkins?
Even this cozy mitten decoration gives me warm vibes! (They’re from Pottery Barn from a few years ago).

Cozy Quilts
An authentic rustic farmhouse would have a handmade patchwork quilt in every bedroom, but for those of us who don’t have the time or talent for quilting, here are some options:
This Velvet Pickstick Quilt is handmade by artisans. Target’s Matte Velvet Solid Quilt is a more affordable version.
3.Baskets And Rope Accents
Baskets are an inexpensive, practical way to add that rustic look to your fall and winter decor. We use large baskets in our mudroom to store winter hats and gloves. I use smaller ones in my bathroom cupboard to keep my toiletries organized. We have several tabletop baskets for food and decor.
One of my favorites is my Madras Oval Basket from World Market. It is the perfect size for crackers, slices of bread, or mini pumpkins for Thanksgiving dinner.
If you want to keep your bread warm, take a look at this Mudpie Bread Warming Basket Set. It would be a lovely gift for a host, especially if you add a freshly baked sourdough boule! If you love all things pumpkin, take a look at this Woven Pumpkin Bowl Set, also from Mudpie.
We’ve been welcoming our guests with a jute welcome mat from Accompany. It’s no longer available, but if you like the woven texture, you might like Target’s Lovers Knot Door Mat.
4.(Reclaimed) Wood Serveware And Decor
A couple of years ago, while traveling through Massachusetts, we discovered Spencer Peterman’s Boards and Bowls. Peterman takes discarded logs and turns them into beautiful food-safe bowls and cutting boards (another holiday gift idea!)
I also have a Viva Terra Root Of the Earth Bowl; another reclaimed wood favorite.
For an old-world charm that also keeps you organized, take a look at this Wood And Iron Sleigh Wall Shelf also from Viva Terra.
5.Greens
If you’re looking for a wreath for your door but don’t have a local spot to buy from, consider a Wreath Subscription. You’ll have a fresh wreath for every season!
Prefer something that you can pack away and reuse? This Holiday Felt Garland would make a beautiful addition to a mantle or to accent your table runner.
I always struggle with faux greens as they tend to be made of plastic (and look cheap). I just discovered Bloomist which offers faux plants made from sustainable materials like their Ecofaux Norfolk Pine With Roots. They also have real greens like Preserved Cedar.
6.Metal Decor And Accents
You don’t think of metal as being cozy or natural, but here are some fall and winter decor pieces that can warm up your room!
Add some LED Tealights to this Galvanized House for your mantle or tabletop.
We received these little reindeer in our Christmas stockings a few years ago.

Wind & Weather’s Handcrafted Metal Flower Wreath comes in beautiful warm fall colors and is made from recycled metal.
If you’re looking for a Menorah, I thought these Blackthorne Forge Hand-Forged Iron Menorahs were just beautiful.
7.Plush Gnomes
The Gnome obsession seems to be back again this fall and holiday season, and I’m not complaining! Once a garden decoration, the luck-bearing gnome has moved inside. There are many tutorials on how to make your own gnomes, but I’m going to stick with my “lack of time and talent theme” and suggest these:
These three Fall Gnomes are affordable and adorable!
I bought these Plush Holiday Gnomes at Pottery Barn last year. They’re a part of a gnome collection that includes dinnerware, sheets, table linens, and pillows. Do you think my husband would notice if I bought them all?

If you’re looking for something smaller and more subtle, we also have this cute Gnome garland from Michaels. You may also like these Wood and Fabric Gnome and Kid Ornaments and this Wood And Felt Gnome ladder.
