Pantone® (the color resource for designers) has chosen Mocha Mousse as the color for 2025. Mocha Mousse is soft brown which looks like the decadent dessert it’s named after. What does this mean for us? It means we’ll see colors similar to Mocha Mousse in fashion, beauty, and home decor this year. Here are some options that are already available in mocha, and how you can wear (or use) them…
Fashion
Who Can Wear Mocha?
Though some consider it a fad, I’m a huge believer in seasonal color analysis: the idea that our skin, hair, and eye color determine which types of colors are more flattering on us. Color analyst, Carole Jackson is credited with inventing this system in the early 1970s, and has a short quiz on her site to help you find your season.
If you are a Spring, look for a mocha with peach (warm) undertones.
Summers, look gorgeous in mocha with pink (cool) undertones.
Autumns will find darker, warmer mochas more flattering.
And my fellow Winters, you may want to wear mocha away from your face i.e. in bottoms, shoes, and accessories.
Cozy Mocha Athleisure
According to Pantone®, Mocha Mousse evokes feelings of “harmonious comfort” so it’s perfect for loungewear and athleisure. You can wear the color mocha in a matching set, or pair it with soft colors like cream, blush, or butter yellow.
Luxurious Knits
Mocha looks beautiful in cashmere and merino wool, especially in knits that have a texture or variations in color. Here are some beautiful sweaters in the mocha family. Wear these with dark jeans for a casual look, with brown trousers for a monochromatic look.
Shoes And Accessories
Mocha also looks beautiful in leather and suede, so consider it for your shoes and accessories. In warm weather, add mocha sunglasses and a basketweave handbag to your outfit.
Beauty
You may have heard of the “latte look” a bronzed makeup look that was popular last year. Mocha can create a similar monochromatic look but with slightly cooler tones. These are some of my favorite makeup brands, that have beautiful mocha shades.
For the Haus Labs Lip Crayon, try Maple Matte (with peach undertones) or Blush Matte (with pink undertones).
I have the Ilia Necessary Eyeshadow Palette in Cool Nudes which includes some beautiful pinks and mochas.
If you’re looking for an affordable and easy way to try out shades of mocha, look for it in nail polish. I think Olive & June’s Fawn and Deborah Lippmann’s Modern Love are two beautiful options.
Mocha Home Decor
Mocha is a soothing, soft color for home decor. Our home decor style is rustic-elegant so we have plenty of wood and wicker decor in shades of soft brown. Mocha also looks beautiful in textured knit throws and velvet pillows.
What Colors Work With Mocha?
Mocha looks beautiful with soft colors like blush, rose, cream, and sage. You can also wear (or use it in your home decor) with deep colors like chocolate, navy, or cherry red. Here are some of the colors that I would coordinate with mocha.
One of my favorite things about Mocha Mousse is the sentiment behind Pantone®’s choice. You can read more about the Mocha Mousse and its message of “connection, comfort, and harmony” on their website.
